A few weeks ago I took Jason to watch Winnie the Pooh at The Reel Theatre.
I found it interesting that out of the 5 other groups of people in the theatre (another reason why I love The Reel Theatre…it’s rarely crowded), only 2 groups had children with them. The others were merely there for nostalgic reasons.
There was one 20ish year old girl, all by herself, who was obviously there because she used to watch Winnie the Pooh as a kid and still loves it today. She was the very first person there. Jason and I were 2nd. We arrived 10 minutes early…I wondered how long she had been waiting. She already made herself quite comfortable in her chair and was oozing with excitement as she waited almost impatiently for the feature to start. It got me to thinking…why can’t more women in their early 20’s, mid 20’s, late 20’s….hell, any age…be more like this girl. Instead of partying it up with her friends, she opted to go to the movies alone to see a new film about one of her favorite characters from her childhood. She had the appearance of a popular, social kind of girl. I couldn’t see or imagine any reason why she wouldn’t have many other offers to do many other things on a Friday evening. I’m guessing that it was just a case of no one wanted to go see a ‘kid’s movie’ with her. Instead of saving face and doing what they wanted to do, she stood up for what she loved and went the other direction.
It was nice to see that there are still people out there who don’t mind going against the flow society….now if only there were a few more…
