So I saw all those various posts come across facebook showing another way to make Hard Boiled Eggs...without the boiling part.
Just like the rest of you I was curious and decided to try it.
It actually DOES work...but is it better?
(I apologize for the crummy camera phone pics...still can't find my regular camera)
I decided to make only 6...no need to waste more than that if It wasn't going to work...
I have seen a few variations of the instructions...one said let them cool, another said put them immediately in an ice bath...I was curious is the ice bath had a purpose, so I split them up.
Both came out the same...so the ice bath only helps cool them faster.
I noticed that they are indeed a bit easier to peel when baked in the oven.
However, there are these dark spots on the eggs after you peel them. I'm guessing it was a weaker part of the shell that allowed more heat to those spots, causing a slight burn.
There is also a little bit of liquid that comes out of the 'hollow' part of the egg when you peel it...so have a napkin handy!
But, as you can see...they look and taste just like any other Hard Boiled Egg.
So...Yes, baking eggs works...
My personal opinion...I'll stick to the boiling method...it takes about the same amount of time, less energy and doesn't leave the brown spots.
But if you need to make 2 dozen hard boiled eggs, but don't have a large pot to boil them in, this is a great alternative method.
